Date: Wednesday 2 May 2018
Time: 9 am – 5.30 pm
Location: Stephenson Harwood, 1 Finsbury Circus, London EC2M 7SH (nearest Underground stations are Moorgate or Liverpool Street)
You are invited to join in this celebratory event to mark the 70th anniversary of IUCN and the 21st birthday of its National Committee in the UK. The event will be a diverse gathering of people with a wide variety of interests in the work of IUCN; its member organisations, members of its six Commissions, its Secretariat and other IUCN supporters and interested parties. Together we will learn about how some of IUCN’s UK Members contribute to the delivery of the more people-centred initiatives that guide our work; the Sustainable Development Goals; CBD Aichi Targets; Resolutions from the IUCN World Conservation Congress and its Hawai’i Commitments; the IUCN Programme and the work of IUCN Commissions; European regional and UK national plans and strategies; and how we can all contribute towards the end of the UN Decade on Biodiversity in 2020.
The programme promises some inspiring speakers, sharing their knowledge and experience on diverse subjects along the theme of nature and human wellbeing. We shall explore the value of education, examine some spiritual, religious and cultural approaches to nature and conservation and look at some examples of how our society might develop in future.
Above all, this is an opportunity to network, to meet with colleagues in the IUCN family and to celebrate the 70 years since IUCN was founded in 1948. So do come and enjoy the hospitality too!
The event will be hosted by the most recent member of the UK National Committee of the IUCN the Margaret Pyke Trust, with the Population & Sustainability Network.
