SRH Partnerships
Internationally, we develop projects with partners in low- and middle-income countries, to improve sexual and reproductive health, focusing on family planning information and services.
USHAPE - Uganda
USHAPE is our family planning programme, which we have designed for the specific training and health challenges in rural Uganda. USHAPE (Uganda Sexual Health and Public Education) follows a whole institution approach, meaning all staff receive training whether they are clinicians or support staff.
Today, we are rolling out USHAPE at health facilities managed by the Uganda Protestant Medical Bureau (UPMB), which has accredited the USHAPE programme. Bwindi Community Hospital, Ishaka Adventist Hospital, Rugarama Hospital and ten satellite clinics are benefiting from USHAPE. We therefore have a hub of training activity in South West Uganda. When we are able to generate a surplus from UK training courses, we increase our activities in Uganda.

Nndwakhulu - South Africa
Nndwakhulu means “the big fight is on!” in the TshiVenda language. This is the name chosen by the communities of South Africa’s Limpopo Province where, with our partner the Thohoyandou Victim Empowerment Programme (TVEP), we developed a major project funded by the European Union’s Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights.
Nndwakhulu empowered marginalised rural communities to know, understand and exercise their sexual and reproductive rights. By combining our experience of improving knowledge of sexual and reproductive health and family planning provision, with TVEP’s unparalleled local and internationally recognised expertise with vulnerable people, we launched a new model programme. Prior to TVEP working with us, they worked to combat sexual and gender based violence, child abuse and HIV stigma, but did not actively promote contraceptive options. TVEP continue to include family planning education within all their projects.
